front cover:

what went well:

I really like the layout as it is sleek and professional. The way my front cover is laid out is simple but effective, it doesn't overload the reader with information but it holds enough information to generate an initial interest. The layout is also suitable for my magazine and holds all the features of a conventional magazine. it therefore suits my target audience as it is easy to read and interpret due to its simplicity and it shows a level of sophistication that will make my youthful audience feel more mature.

I feel like the vibrant, neon green works really well and gives the front cover some character and links to my genre as it stands out and looks graffiti like. The green also works really well with my magazine masthead as I drew the letters within the original title design in order to add to the effect that it has on the reader, it makes it brighter and more aesthetically pleasing. the vibrancy of the neon green is suitable for my target audience as it is considered cool and trendy, therefore appealing to them. The graffiti also has connotations of street life, which grime is based around therefore it is relatable to my target audience.

even better if:

The use of the orange and blue used follows my colour scheme, however it looks too dull compared to my neon green used for the headlines and masthead. It is suitable for my front cover due to the fact that it follows my colour scheme but in order to be more aesthetically pleasing it should be brighter. The neon green completely outshines the orange and blue and reduces the effect of the colours. If it was brighter it would be more appealing to my target audience as they are young and vibrant.

My strap-line is suitable for the front cover and links to the brief as it is North London based however like the blue and orange, it is dull and is in the shadows of the masthead. The strap-line should stand out as it is meant to promote my magazine but it doesn't therefore making it ineffective and possibly useless. It should be bolder and should stand out nearly as much as my masthead. However my strap-line is suitable for my target audience as its cool, graffiti-font design is attractive and exciting as well as relatable for them due to its connotations of street life. It also links to the brief due to its vibrancy.

what went well:

The use of the twitter content that I added in was good as it looks aesthetically pleasing due to its fade into the picture and also promoting my artists social media account and new album. The tweet is also positioned well as it covers an area of the image that is rather bland and could do with some enhancements or features/content that could make it more interesting. This feature is suitable as it is up to date, is relevant to my body copy and also links to my target audience as my target audience use social media the most out of all age ranges. This content is also original, therefore it meets the brief.

The image used is suitable as it reflects my genre through the use of cool, trendy clothing that is common within the North London grime scene. The image showcases my artist in a vibrant forest scene surrounded by wildlife as well as a friend of his. The friends use of hand gestures creates a sense of swagger and excitement, therefore making it interesting for my target audience as they would keep up with the current street trends. This image links to the brief as it is vibrant and it was captured in Trent park, North London.

even better if:

My body copy is very long and has a small font size (8) therefore it could be hard for my target audience to read as they may have a low reading ability. therefore it isn't suitable. I feel I should increase the font size to approximately 10/12 for example and reduce the amount of words used in order for it to be simpler and more captivating for the reader, however some readers may enjoy the amount of words as it is more content so it may be beneficial to have an extended article on my website for those readers.

The area directly around my headline text box is blank and boring and is aesthetically disappointing, therefore it isn't suitable for my vibrant, exciting, youthful target audience. as they would hold a lack of interest. It would be better if it contained some promotional content or images that catch the readers attention as well as filling the space.
