Codes and conventions:
Artist: I chose my artist as he is knowledgeable of the grime scene and follows it massively. he had a good idea of how he should look for the photos and modelled well. In the images that I took of my artist he modelled several poses and facial expressions for a large range to chose from for my magazine front cover and double page spread. My artist also links to my secondary target audience as he is within the age range and could therefore be relatable to them. My artist is also a vibrant person and that was expressed in the photos, therefore linking to the brief. The genre of my magazine is grime and conventionally their facial expression tends to be quite intense, which is why I chose this image.
Location: The location (Trent Park) was great for taking the photos as it held some great natural scenery and really uplifted the photos with bright, vibrant colours. the location enable us to take photos with different backgrounds, From trees to walls to a pond. the location also gave us a great opportunity to play around with the lighting due to different levels of exposure throughout the park. The location also links to the brief as it is based in North London and the photos taken there are original content. Further it is conventional to my genre as it depicts an urban surrounding.
Costume: My artists costume consisted of tracksuit bottoms- a chilled, trendy look that is highly popular within the North London grime scene, a rare hoodie that has a unique design- to be a bit flashy and to express the artists success and a coat with a furry hood to create some extra detail and colours for the images. these kinds of clothes are very popular within my primary and secondary target audiences due to the current grime trends.
Body copy: my body copy consisted of a background story interview with my artist (B-money). the content of the article contains many questions and answers about the artists past and how he made it to where he is now. the article is meant to enlighten his fans in order for them to understand him more and to feel motivated. the article is also to help create exposure for the artist. It will be written in columns to adhere to the conventions of a magazine.
final photos:
I chose this photo for my front cover as it has a bold, powerful prescence that is strong.

article: background story-interview with B-Money
B-Money, 29, is one of the largest grime artists in North London, he built his way up to fame starting from a council estate in Tottenham and he's here today to express to the youth that determination can get you anywhere.
‘So B-Money it’s nice to meet you finally, how are you?’
‘I’m good bro, life is treating me well (laughs)’
‘so, how and when did you decide that grime was the right career path for yourself’
‘When I was like 14 my dad left me, my mum and my little bro and it was a struggle with trying to find money, you get me. My mates would be selling drugs and robbing people but I didn’t wanna go down that path you know, my mother raised me well and she is my queen and I wanted to be there for her, I couldn’t bring myself to imagine how much she would suffer if I got locked up. So I got a part time job at my uncles business and I would clean the floor of his restaurant and clean up after the customers, it was boring but it allowed me to have some money to help support myself and my family u know so anything helped. After a few months I saved up around £600 and wanted to do something with it, turn it into more, an investment of some sort possibly. So I was with my guys in the park one day after school and we started rapping to random beats on my mates phone, then my mate tarell said at one point and I remember it so clearly ‘you know these mandem on the internet get payed bare for their music, like big p’s. we should start making music, we could buy a camera and a microphone, and we could start soon’. My face lit up, however the others weren’t fully committed, just me and tarell, so I would rap to grime beats and tarell would film and direct. I loved it, the way I could express myself through music at a time of struggle, it was my happy place’
‘How has music impacted your life and who is your role model?’
‘music has helped my family out a lot, we are now financially secure, and my mother doesn’t need to work nightshifts anymore, we are less stressed and have no concerns about paying the bills.me and my day ones are living large and we are loving life. Music changed my life dramatically. My mum was my role model, no one else. Her hard work and determination to provide a good life for me and my bro was inspiring, and I could never be able to repay her for that. She is a special, honourable woman and I now wanna give her everything I possibly can to thank her’
‘how is your music perceived where you come from?’
My whole block now knows who I am, they enjoy my music a lot, they always ask me when I’m next going to drop content. I sometimes film my music videos with the local youth out in the skate park, I want them to enjoy my journey too and the smile on their little faces motivates me.
‘When did you start making money? did the investment work?’
‘So it took around a month or so, £500 and 4 music videos in but we finally made some money and we were gassed. One day I got a reply from one of the music streaming companies that we applied to and they offered £250 for the rights to my most recent music video – ‘the estate’. That was only the start, the money kept rolling in and 5 months after starting we got our first gig at a popular concert in front of 3000 people, that was the start.’
‘So the impossible isn’t impossible then, you made it so anyone can, what’s your advice for readers who want to make it in the world?’
‘Look, It’s not just about talent or your background, its about your mentality, if you are strong and determined then you will reach your goals, never get cocky, confidence in yourself is key but when its too much it reflects badly on yourself and makes you a less attractive person. Be yourself to your fans if you make it and pay them back what they gave you, my fans are the only reason I’m having this interview right now and I couldn’t have made it without them. Be humble and be grateful for what you have.’
‘ lovely words, I have to say. Its been a pleasure to interview a man inspiring as yourself and I cant wait for your new album to drop soon.’
‘thanks, I appreciate it man, I want this album to be the biggest one yet, Hopefully we shall meet again soon and I will be bigger than I am now and dropping more content than ever and expanding outside the North London region and touring around north Londons biggest venues.
‘Well I hope that all comes true, I will add the link into the article so all readers can see’
‘love for that man, I hope the readers out there enjoy it and share it around with their mates and jam to it all the time thanks a lot, NLD for interviewing me peace’
